An Adaptive Sampling Procedure for Speech Perception Experiments

چکیده

–Obtain a sampling resolution comparable to 6 responses per stimulus (580 responses) in a time of 30 minutes. Procedure 1. All stimuli are presented twice in random order, the listener identifies the stimuli (180 responses). 2. A logistic regression model is fitted to the response data, and the predicted probabilities of each category for each stimulus are calculated. 3. The error between the observed and predicted probabilities for each stimulus is calculated. 4. Half the stimuli are resampled (45 responses). 4.1 stochastic noise is added to the error scores 4.2 the stimuli with the highest error+noise scores are resampled 5. Steps 2 through 4 are repeated three more times.

An adaptive sampling procedure for speech perception experiments

Synthetic speech perception experiments may make use of several acoustic dimensions in order to adequately model listeners’ perception; however, the number of stimuli increases exponentially as dimensions are added. A relatively large number of identification responses per stimulus are needed in the vicinity of category boundaries in order to model the boundaries with reasonable accuracy. Fewer...

Fitting the Three-parameter Weibull Distribution by using Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure

The Weibull distribution is widely employed in several areas of engineering because it is an extremely flexible distribution with different shapes. Moreover, it can include characteristics of several other distributions. However, successful usage of Weibull distribution depends on estimation accuracy for three parameters of scale, shape and location. This issue shifts the attentions to the requ...

Effect of signal to noise ratio on the speech perception ability of older adults

Background: Speech perception ability depends on auditory and extra-auditory elements. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is an extra-auditory element that has an effect on the ability to normally follow speech and maintain a conversation. Speech in noise perception difficulty is a common complaint of the elderly. In this study, the importance of SNR magnitude as an extra-auditory effect on speech...

Application of adaptive sampling in fishery part 2: Truncated adaptive cluster sampling designs

There are some experiences that researcher come across quite number of time for very large networks in the initial samples such that they cannot finish the sampling procedure. Two solutions have been proposed and used by marine biologists which we discuss in this article: i) Adaptive cluster sampling based on order statistics with a stopping rule, ii) Restricted adaptive cluster sampling. Until...
